Secret Fantasy Consistency Kings, Baker Mayfield reigns supreme!

Welcome Back! Big Guy Fantasy Sports is thrilled to bring you another year of the best in NFL consistency rankings and championship fantasy football strategy.

Consistency wins Fantasy Football championships. Interested in who showed out last season as consistently clutch? I’ve got answers.

Historical data can help us with fantasy consistency. Reviewing past seasons and checking on consistency metrics allows you to be more knowledgeable about future projections.

I combed through last season’s data and found four Kings of fantasy consistency. Once I had determined who was most consistent, I matched those with high-end fantasy football finishes in positional rankings. One for each of the main fantasy football positions (QB, RB, WR, TE).

Read on and see who I picked as Consistency Kings. Also, if you haven’t already, sign up today to get full access to all of the tools available at BGFS!

QB Baker Mayfield TB

If you followed my Fantasy Football: Under the Radar (with consistency) series last year, you know Baker Mayfield showed up many times. Recently, Bob Lung wrote about him in his 2025 Undervalued Fantasy Football Quarterbacks. Bob even recommended him as a huge value before the 2024 season. Needless to say, Baker showed out in a big way in 2024.

Mayfield finished the 2024 season with an 82% CR (Clutch Rate). He finished with 14 clutch games out of 17 games played. That CR only trailed Lamar Jackson (runner-up for NFL MVP), who came in at 87%. Even more amazing was that Mayfield finished the season as QB3 overall (426.8). He trailed only Jackson (479.1) and Joe Burrow (436) in total points.

Mayfield is a former 1st overall pick in the NFL draft, and he’s been living up to it. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted Emeka Egbuka, a wide receiver, with the 19th overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. He’s joining a receiving room that already includes Mike Evans (a potential Hall of Famer), Chris Godwin (on pace for a WR1 season last year before being hurt), and Jalen McMillan (a 2024 3rd-round pick).

Add running backs Bucky Irving, Rachaad White, and tight end Cade Otton to the mix, and it becomes easy to see a repeat for Mayfield. He had the 5th most passing attempts at quarterback last season and combined that with a 71.4% completion rate (3rd in the NFL). ADP (Average Draft Position) has Mayfield at QB7, pick 77.2 overall. That’s 55 picks or 4 1/2 rounds below Josh Allen, the QB1 for ADP (pick 22.3 overall). He’s a smash pick again this year.

RB Aaron Jones MIN

I wrote about Alvin Kamara in my ADP Too High and Too Low Fantasy Football article, and he could easily fit in here. Alas, I decided to go with Aaron Jones, as he’s being disregarded in fantasy drafts despite great fantasy consistency.

Jones finished last season 7th in CR at 88%, right behind Alvin Kamara, who had a 93% CR. Jones also finished 14th overall in points at the running back position. He has four 1,000-yard rushing seasons and 70 touchdowns (50 rushing and 20 receiving) on his career resume over eight years in the league.

Jones’ ADP has him at RB25 even though he’s been more fantasy consistent than many drafted before him. Overall, he scored more points than Joe Mixon (ADP RB14), Breece Hall(ADP RB16), David Montgomery (ADP RB21), and D’Andre Swift (ADP RB24) last season.

Fantasy consistency for your players gives you an edge and allows you to draft confidently. Jones is a key piece who’s going in the 6th round. He has RB1 upside and plays in the explosive Minnesota Vikings offense (9th in the NFL at 25.4 points per game in 2024). Don’t let McCarthy scare you off. Vikings’ Head Coach Kevin McConnell knows how to build an offense. If he’s confident, then so are we.

WR Chris Godwin TB

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had one of the best wide receiver duos for most of the last decade. Mike Evans has been elite, and Chris Godwin the epitome of consistency. Last season, Godwin was a perfect 7 for 7 in Clutch Games, a 100% CR.

He’s been one of the best wide receivers in the league and continues to do it quietly. Since 2019, Godwin has averaged 6.15 receptions and 74.67 yards per game. Over Godwin’s last 24 games (over the past two seasons), he’s only had 6 games where he was worse than a WR3. Over those 24 games, he’s averaged 14.46 points per game. Remove 2023, and that average balloons up to 19.69 points per game. That’s WR2, behind only Ja’Marr Chase.

The biggest knock on Godwin is his ankle injury in week 7 last year. It ended his season, but the news so far this year is optimistic. Deepak Chona, MD. SMA says he’ll be ready for week 1 at 80% before a ramp-up to 90% in week 8. So that’s great news for those who know how consistent he is as Godwin’s ADP continues to dip (105.3 overall).

Godwin has the potential to be a WR1, but his consistency makes him a dominant WR2 in fantasy football lineups. The middle of the 8th round is too far for a player of Godwin’s stature. Savvy managers will be drafting him and buying the dip confidently. The Buccaneers re-signed him in March to a 3 year deal worth over $66 million, so it’s safe to say they feel confident in his recovery.

TE Jonnu Smith MIA Fantasy Consistency

Last week, I wrote about Jonnu Smith as a riser in ADP. Now it’s time to recognize his fantasy consistency. Last season, Smith had 12 clutch games out of 17 games played. That’s a 71% CR and even better, it matches Brock Bowers‘ game-for-game from last season. Bowers finished as TE1 overall and Smith at TE4.

Smith averaged 13.1 points per game last season. However, week 11 through week 18, he averaged 18.59 points per game. I probably don’t need to tell you where that would’ve ranked on the season, TE1.

During that 8-game stretch, Smith was a TE1 in 7 games (finishing week 17 as TE14). His consistent production despite a quarterback carousel in Miami (Tyler Huntley, Skylar Thompson, and Tim Boyle) tells us he can produce even in tough situations. This season, the Dolphins expect Tua Tagovailoa to be healthy, and if he’s not, they brought in Zach Wilson as a capable backup (better than anything they had last year).

Smith has TE1 upside and plays in a fast-paced offense led by Head Coach Mike McDaniel. McDaniel seemed confident, feeding Smith 8+ targets a game over the final eight weeks. If he continues to fall to the 10th TE off the board, his consistency is too good to let him drop that far; draft him.
