Nick Chubb Signed With Houston: Fantasy Or Fiction?

Chubb has signed a 1-year $2.5m deal with the Texans, creating a MAJOR fantasy conundrum in Houston.
It took Nick Chubb a bit to find a new home this offseason. His fate in Cleveland was sealed during the 2025 Draft as the cash-strapped Browns had to restock their RB room with rookies, albeit rookies who could make a fantasy impact in Ohio State’s Quinshon Judkins and Tennessee’s Dylan Sampson. Chubb finally found a home in Houston, inking a one-year deal worth 2.5 million to complement starter Joe Mixon. Is there anything left in Chubb’s fantasy tank?

Nick Chubb Vs. Joe Mixon
Unfortunately for Chubb and fantasy owners, durability has become a major concern when looking to draft him as part of your RB room. Throughout his tenure in Cleveland, Chubb suited up for every game in just two seasons. During those two seasons (2019, 2022), he toted the rock 600 times and saw 87 targets in the passing game.
In the 2022 season, Chubb was our sixth most consistent running back, racking up 12 clutch games in 17 games played. Fast forward to 2023-2024, and he’s posted just three clutch games due to a devastating knee injury and a broken foot upon his return in 2024. It goes without saying I’m less than optimistic about his ability to stay healthy.

Does he offer much to fantasy owners? At this point, the role he will play is still unclear. What is clear is that Joe Mixon is still the RB1. Will Nick Chubb get carries each game? Yes. While it’s impressive to see the work Chubb puts in in the weight room, it remains to be seen if he is all the way back from injury.
Barring an injury to Mixon, I don’t see Chubb getting enough work to make a significant impact on your fantasy roster. I think there’s a bit left in the tank, but I feel like this signing is a better real-life one than a fantasy one.

The Entire CLE RB Room
Jerome Ford is listed first on the depth chart, but did little with that title in 2024 with just four clutch games in Chubb’s absence. It won’t be long for Judkins and Sampson to take over in the Browns’ backfield. My money’s on Judkins to be the leader. He’s currently the RB25 off the board. Don’t be afraid to take a shot with Sampson at his much more affordable ADP 200 price tag. He will beat out Ford to be the pass-catching back.
Who does this hurt?
Joe Mixon
We don’t quite know how this impacts Mixon, but it will eat into his carries somehow. I am also a bit scared Chubb could vulture some touchdowns. I still like him at his current ADP of RB19.
Nick Chubb In Houston: Fantasy Or Fiction?
Overall, I won’t be putting Chubb on any of my teams. I simply don’t trust his body at this point. He’s affordable, and I understand taking a flyer and hoping for some of that past magic, but I simply don’t see it. I would rather take Sampson in that range, or wait on a guy like Audric Estime, who could outperform Chubb.
