NFL Fantasy Week 9 Waiver Wire: One Week Wonders – Can We Trust Them?

Every week, Bob Lung tracks those One Week Wonders to see if they maintain their consistency or not. This will help with your NFL Week 9 Waiver wire decisions!

As we wrapped up Week 8, the Weeks 1 thru 7 “wonders” are only producing at a 29.6% consistency rate after the big week. Let’s see who the Week 8 One-Week Wonders were and whether they look like a potential breakout start moving forward.

QB – CJ Stroud – #10 overall – 21.70 points

Stroud’s lack has kept him on most rosters as a backup so far in 2025. He’s ranked 19th in total points and has been very inconsistent at just 33% for the year. So, with Stroud going up against the 49ers pass defense, it didn’t seem like a good idea to start him. Hopefully, you did due to the bye week. Stroud had his best game of the season with 318 yards and two touchdowns. He has Denver up next, so keep expectations low.

RB – Tyjae Spears – #11 overall – 17.20 points

The Titans are going downstream without paddles or a head coach. So, the Titans are normally playing from far behind. This has allowed Tyjae Spears more time in the passing game and it paid off this week. His three catches for 33 yards, 59 yards rushing and a touchdown earned him 17.20 points. Maybe this will kickstart some consistency for Spears on a weekly basis moving forward and maybe a solid flex spot.

WR – Troy Franklin – #1 overall – 26.90 points

Courtland Sutton and Marvin Mims are the normal #1 and #2 receivers on the Broncos. However, Troy Franklin is quietly starting to edge his way into the passing game. This will be back-to-back Clutch Games for Franklin. As long as this offense continues to roll up big games each week, Franklin will be more involved. Grab him if he’s on the wire this week.

TE – Gunnar Helm – #10 overall – 10.30 points

If you said “Who?”, you’re not only alone. The former Texas Longhorn caught a touchdown this week in garbage time and earned his first clutch game of his young career. I’m not expecting to many clutch games moving forward, but if Chiggy goes down, he might be a decent pickup.
