The running back position is again extremely dominate in the first five rounds in the 2020 drafts, as approximately 25-30 running backs are being picked in the first 60 picks overall. That wasn’t always the case, as you will note below, the trends below regarding the decline of the super-stud backs (scoring based on PPR).

 

2002 – 2009 – Number of RB’s over 300 points in one season = 35 running backs

2002 – 2009 – Number of RB’s over 400 points in one season = 5 running backs

 

2018 – 2009 – Number of RB’s over 300 points in one season = 26 running backs

2018 – 2009 – Number of RB’s over 400 points in one season = 1 running backs

 

In 2019, of course, Christian McCaffrey was the first running back over 400 points since 2016 went David Johnson barely went over 408.60 Fantasy points. McCaffrey crushed the running back position with 468.20 Fantasy points. He was 150 points ahead of second place.   There were only three other running backs over 300 points. Aaron Jones, Ezekiel Elliott and Austin Ekeler. Derrick Henry had 297.50 with 15 games played, while Dalvin Cook was at 294.40 with only 14 games.
