FANTASY FOOTBALL: 2020 Consistency Awards - QB

Bob Lung passes out the Consistency Awards to the quarterbacks for 2020 Fantasy Football season! How did your quarterbacks end up? Follow Bob @bob_lung.

The Fantasy Football season of 2020 is in the books and there were many Clutch quarterbacks and some, well, not so much. Therefore, in the heart of Awards season, it’s time to announce the 2020 Consistency Awards for the quarterbacks!

WORST VALUE

This award goes to the quarterback that had the highest ADP at the beginning of the season and ended the season with the worst combination of total Fantasy Points and consistency. Thus, making him the worst value at quarterback in 2020.

And the winner is….

Lamar Jackson

There were certainly some other quarterbacks who fit this description, but when a quarterback is drafted as the #1 or #2 quarterback off the board, you expect great things from him! Lamar Jackson did great things in 2019 as he earned the coveted, Mr. Consistency Award! So, with great expectations comes great responsibility or something like that. However, Lamar let his Fantasy owners down. He was terrible, but he did end the year ranked 10th in total points and had a 67% consistency rating, which ranked him ninth. Again, not terrible, but certainly the worst value based on his second round overall ADP.

BEST VALUE

This award goes to the quarterback that had the lowest ADP at the beginning of the season and ended the season with the best combination of total Fantasy Points and consistency. Thus, making the best value at quarterback in 2020.

And the winner is….

Justin Herbert

For the third year in a row, an relatively inexperienced quarterback stepped into the starting role with very little hype and far out-performed his ADP! Justin Herbert wasn’t probably drafted in most one quarterback leagues, mostly due to Tyrod Taylor being named the starting quarterback for the Chargers. However, a team doctor mistake pushed Justin Herbert into the starting role and Taylor got “Wally Pipp’d” (look it up on Google) and never saw the field again in 2020. The expectations were still pretty low, but Herbert busted out and used his arms and legs to end the season ranked ninth in total points and had a 67% consistency rating, which tied him with Lamar Jackson. I would certainly his ADP to be much higher in 2021.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

This award goes to the rookie quarterback that had ended the season with the best combination of total Fantasy Points and consistency.

And the winner is….

Justin Herbert

Did we mention above that Herbert was a rookie? Nope, because we wanted to mention it here! Herbert was one of the rare quarterbacks who earned over a 60%consistency rating in their rookie season. He was the sixth pick overall in the NFL draft, but he was not expected to be a star coming out of the blocks. His consistency did slip over the last five games as he went only 40% consistent. However, he should be a good value quarterback pick in 2021.

CLUTCH-LESS

This award goes to the quarterback that ended the season with a high ranking in total Fantasy Points, but his consistency was lower than expected. Therefore, making him look more valuable (due to high points rank) than he was worth to his Fantasy teams.

And the winner is….

Matt Ryan

Each year, it seems that this award is “won” by a veteran quarterback who puts up good Fantasy numbers but not on a consistent basis. This year’s recipient is Matt Ryan. He ended the year 12th in total points, but could manage only a 50% consistency rating for the year, which ranked him 17th. Ryan isn’t getting any younger and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Falcons possibly grab a successor quarterback in the draft this year.

CLUTCH-MORE

This award goes to the quarterback that ended the season with a low ranking in total Fantasy Points, but his consistency was higher than expected. Therefore, making him look less valuable (due to high points rank) to his Fantasy teams, when he was actually worth MORE!

And the winner is….

Kirk Cousins

This may surprise some folks, but Cousins ended the year ranked 11th in total points, even more surprising, he had a 69% consistency rating, which tied him for SIXTH place with Russell Wilson in consistency! He was ahead Lamar Jackson, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and many others. In fact, over the last eight games, Cousins went seven for eight for an 89% consistency rating and this was with a healthy and productive Dalvin Cook. Can we trust Cousins in 2021? Maybe, we’ll have to see if they improve their defense, which is what caused Cousins to throw more than normal.

CLUTCH COMEBACK PLAYER OF THE YEAR

This award goes to the quarterback that ended the 2019 season with a poor ranking in total Fantasy Points and consistency. However, in 2020, he had the greatest improvement in both categories making him very valuable to his Fantasy teams.

And the winner is….

Aaron Rodgers

I guess this is a pretty easy decision, when Rodgers was the WORST VALUE in 2019 and then ends 2020 ranked third in total points and has an 88% consistency rating! Only Patrick Mahomes did better at 93%. Yes, in 2019, Rodgers was 11th in total points, but had a horrendous 38% consistency rating, which ranked him 26th. The drafting of Jordan Love certainly put a chip on his shoulder and he went out and proved that he is FAR from finished in this league.

CLUTCH MVP

This award goes to the quarterback that ended the 2020 with the best combination of total Fantasy Points and consistency.

And the winner is….

Patrick Mahomes

The winner in 2018, Mahomes bounced back in 2020 to regain his Mr. Consistency Award! He was everything you’d expect him to be this past year. He missed one game and ended up fifth in total points (34 points behind #1), but most importantly, Mahomes lead the league with a 93% consistency rating for the year! He does continue to have foot and ankle injuries and he obviously struggles without a strong offensive line (see the Super Bowl), but then what quarterback wouldn’t! Mahomes should be the #1 quarterback off the board again in 2021. The question will be how soon do you have to draft him?

Thanks for joining us for the Consistency Awards at quarterback! Hopefully, these consistent players were on your teams!
