Bob Lung passes out the Consistency Awards to the quarterbacks for 2017 Fantasy Football season! How did your quarterbacks end up? Follow Bob @bob_lung

The Fantasy Football season of 2017 is in the books and there were many Clutch quarterbacks and some, well, not so much. Therefore, in the heart of Awards season, it’s time to announce the 2017 Consistency Awards for the quarterbacks!

WORST VALUE

This award goes to the quarterback that had the highest ADP at the beginning of the season and ended the season with the worst combination of total Fantasy Points and consistency. Thus, making him the worst value at quarterback in 2017.

And the winner is….

Derek Carr

Derek Carr ended 2016 with an injury, but prior to that, he was mentioned as an MVP candidate. This led to an ADP in 2017 around the QB8 mark, which seemed reasonable. However, Carr never even came close to even good Fantasy numbers as he ended the season ranked 20th in total points and had a 33% Clutch Rating in his 15 games played. Rumors have it that he was hampered by a back injury, but regardless, he certainly returned the worst value in 2017.

BEST VALUE

This award goes to the quarterback that had the lowest ADP at the beginning of the season and ended the season with the best combination of total Fantasy Points and consistency. Thus, making the best value at quarterback in 2017.

And the winner is….

Carson Wentz

This was really close between Wentz and Matthew Stafford. Stafford had an ADP of QB16 and ended the season ranked sixth in total points and had a 75% Clutch Rate. Wentz had an ADP of QB18 and ended 2017 ranked eighth in total points and had a 69% Clutch Rate. However, Wentz missed three games and still put up those numbers while being ranked lower spots lower in ADP.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

This award goes to the rookie quarterback that had ended the season with the best combination of total Fantasy Points and consistency.

And the winner is….

DeShaun Watson

What a rookie season this kid could have had without his injury in Week 8! In his first seven games, he earned six Clutch Games for an 86% Clutch Rate. That tied his with Aaron Rodgers for first place in consistency, even though they both only played seven games. His 191.85 Fantasy points in seven games gave him a per game average of over 27.4 points. Russell Wilson was first place in total points and average only 25 Fantasy points per game. Watson’s ADP in 2017 should be interesting. But for now, he’s easily the quarterback rookie of the year in Consistency!

CLUTCH-LESS

This award goes to the quarterback that ended the season with a high ranking in total Fantasy Points, but his consistency was lower than expected. Therefore, making him look more valuable (due to high points rank) than he was worth to his Fantasy teams.

And the winner is….

Cam Newton

In what may be the biggest fluctuation EVER in total Fantasy points ranking versus Consistency ranking, Cam Newton runs award with this award in 2017! He ended the season ranked THIRD in total Fantasy points and yet had a Clutch Rate UNDER 50%! Yep, his Cutch Rate was 44% (7 for 16)! Alex Smith was also bad with a fourth place in total points and a 53% Clutch Rate. Newton would have won the Worst Value award as well if it wasn’t for Derek Carr’s terrible season.

CLUTCH-MORE

This award goes to the quarterback that ended the season with a low ranking in total Fantasy Points, but his consistency was higher than expected. Therefore, making him look less valuable (due to high points rank) to his Fantasy teams, when he was actually worth MORE!

And the winner is….

Jameis Winston

This is surprising to me as it probably is to you. However, Winston, after missing three games, ripped off FIVE straight Clutch Games at the end of the year and finished the season with a 69% Clutch Rate. This tied him for fourth place with Carson Wentz and Russell Wilson. His total points for the year ranked 18th overall due to terrible games earlier in the year. Winston could provide some good value in 2018 since his ADP should fall quite a bit.

CLUTCH COMEBACK PLAYER OF THE YEAR

This award goes to the quarterback that ended the 2016 season with a poor ranking in total Fantasy Points and consistency. However, in 2017, he had the greatest improvement in both categories making him very valuable to his Fantasy teams.

And the winner is….

Carson Wentz

This is another that’s hard to argue with. Yes, Jared Goff and Case Keenum were pretty bad, when they played in 2016. However, Carson Wentz ranked 24th in total points and had a 31% Clutch Rate in 2016. As was already mentioned above, he ended eighth in total points and a 69% Clutch Rate, while missing three games. That’s a great comeback!

CLUTCH MVP

This award goes to the quarterback that ended the 2017 with the best combination of total Fantasy Points and consistency.

And the winner is….

Matthew Stafford

This competition was very close between Stafford and Russell Wilson. Wilson scored more points, but Stafford had a better Clutch Rate. In the playoffs (Weeks 14-16), Wilson was only one for three while Stafford was two for three in Clutch Games. In addition, Stafford’s ADP was QB16 versus Wilson’s QB5. Stafford ended 2017 ranked sixth in total points and had the highest Clutch Rate amongst quarterbacks (playing at least 10 games) with a 75% Clutch Rate. Only DeShaun Watson and Aaron Rodgers had higher, but in only seven games. Stafford seems to get more consistent with age and could provide some mid-late round value in 2018.

Thanks for joining us for the Consistency Awards at quarterback! Hopefully, these consistent players were on your teams!
