Nease’s Insights—Week 13: Who’s Hot? Who’s Not?

Wow! It seems like just yesterday that we were talking about planning for our drafts and anxiously awaiting the start of the season. Our playoffs begin either next week, or in Week 15 in some cases. At this stage about half of you are in contention for, or have clinched a playoff slot. As we saw last night on TNF, Dallas beat New Orleans. That was generally not expected. In fantasy football, strong teams can, but seldom do, lose to weak teams. One thing is certain though, you cannot win the championship without being in the playoffs.

These next two weeks can either be the end of your season, or the beginning of your championship experience. This is the week to use every resource you have to optimize your lineups. I have analyzed the last four weeks’ scoring stats and determined who has been hot, as well as who has not been very effective.

I have assumed that players that have reached stud status this season will be inserted in lineups automatically. Today I have listed two groups of players—one with other players who have been starter quality scoring wise over the last four weeks, as well as those that should be avoided, if possible.

Unfortunately, some of these lesser scorers must be used by some of you. All you can do is make a gut decision based on all the facts you have in hand. In the end, we just have to do our best and make the odds as favorable to ourselves as possible. We must simply do our best. Then we wait and see what results fate has in store for us.

These players” hot” and “not” classifications are not meant to say that a hot player will continue to be hot in Week13, or that one classified as not cannot have a big game. I am showing trends over the last four weeks. You know as well as I do, that the unexpected does indeed happen in this game we love. Just ask Brees, Kamara and Thomas owners after last night’s game. These listings are an indicator so to speak. Use them as a tiebreaker, after you have done all your other analysis. There is no algorithm that will give you any better information, or edge that you can obtain from your own weekly research. In the end, I always tell people to use their gut to make the final decision. I try to give you as big of an edge as I can. In the end, luck comes into play. Hopefully, everything will come together positively and we will keep winning. The pride, bragging rights and of course, a little $$$ won is pretty gratifying as we hoist the trophy following a championship season.
