Nease’s Insights—Week 8: Major Injuries & Waiver Wire Pickups

With the 8th games coming up this week, fantasy owners have now passed the half-way point of the season. I notice in my leagues that there is an abundance of 4-3 and 3-4 teams in the standings. That means that with six games to go, in an assumed 13-game schedule, many playoff races are wide open. I have gone from 2-3 in my FanEx Experts League to 4-3. I have beaten my top 2 competitors and am now tied for first. Any of us can string together 2-3 wins now and be a playoff contender.

Once you sneak into the playoffs, anything can happen. Injuries and luck can take their toll and derail a great team, leaving the championship to a lesser opponent. Right now, four of my six teams are in 1st or 2nd place and in line to make the playoffs. One of my teams is 3-4, but who knows what could still happen. At 2-5, my 6th team has lost to the two division leaders who have just plain outscored me. I am getting no breaks or luck whatsoever. What will be will be.

This week we have many new injuries and four bye teams (Titans, Cowboys, Chargers and Falcons) to worry about. In week 7 we had many injuries to add to our ever-growing list. As of the time of this writing, none of them were clear-cut as to seriousness. All of them have a status to be determined label as now. Several of these could affect players for some extended time. Here they are—keep checking their statuses as the week progresses.

  • RB LeSean McCoy, BUF Concussion
  • RB Melvin Gordon, LAC Hamstring
  • RB Sony Michel NE Knee
  • WR Albert Wilson, MIA Hip
  • WR Kenny Stills, MIA Lower Body

To check current injury statuses, here is a comprehensive, up to date list from Rotoworld of injury statuses by team. I would suggest bookmarking this link and placing it in your fantasy football resources folder.
