The Fantasy Football season of 2016 is in the books and there were many Clutch wide receivers and some, well, not so much. Therefore, in the heart of Awards season, it’s time to announce the 2016 Clutch Awards for the Wide Receivers!

Bob Lung shares the most consistent wide receivers of 2016 and his projections for 2017. Follow him @bob_lung

Is the Fantasy world changing for wide receivers? Last year, there were only three receivers over 300 points and all three were barely over (307, 306 and 300, respectively). This is only half of the six receivers over 300 in 2015. In fact, this is lowest number of 300 point receivers since there were only three in 2012. Therefore, it’s very important to identify the consistent receivers more than just the high scoring receivers.

Consistency. Any educated fantasy owner knows that you need your Fantasy Football players to be not only good, but also consistently good! It’s a proven fact that the more consistent your Fantasy players are throughout the season, the better chance that you’ll have to win. More wins equals playoffs and playoffs can turn into championships! A quick recap for those unfamiliar with the Clutch Games system.  The Head-to-Head (H2H) format in Fantasy Football leads to the need for consistency. Many teams have been near the top of their league in scoring, but miss the playoffs by one or two games. Many will call it “bad luck” and that’s partially true. Injuries to key players, bad weather, etc. are situations that affect our Fantasy teams, but are uncontrollable. However, there is one aspect of Fantasy football that you can control. The consistency of your team!

A Clutch Game is awarded to a player each week when they exceed the Clutch Game Factor in your league for that position. The more Clutch Games a player is awarded each year, the more consistent that player is and the more beneficial they are to your Fantasy team.

The scoring method used will be 1 point per 20 yards passing and 4 points for passing touchdowns; 1 point per 10 yards rushing and receiving; 1 point per reception; and 6 points for any rushing/receiving touchdown.

So, let’s review Week 1 for the wide receivers…

THE EXPECTED

The wide receivers were way above the average number of Clutch Game earners (36) by having 46 on the good list. The expected studs like Michael Thomas (#1); Tyreek Hill (#2), and Julio Jones (#6) were accounted for. Some other receivers who I would expect to continue their consistency going forward are players like Tyler Lockett, Ted Ginn, and Quincy Enunwa. With the return of a healthy Andrew Luck also comes the return of a consistent T.Y. Hilton. Brandin Cooks and Cooper Kupp were fantasy-worthy even with Gurley earning his points. The real question is can they maintain it? We’ll keep an eye on it.
