Fantasy Baseball 2020: Consistent Undervalued - SP

Nick Young compares 2020 NFBC Average Draft Position to our Clutch Rate and Clutch Rate Rankings providing you with consistency targets for your H2H fantasy baseball leagues. Follow him @Nick0629Nick on Twitter.

Every fantasy baseball team owner is looking for a cheap player in the middle rounds who can pan out to be worth more than where they are drafted at. Luckily, our guys over at Big Guy Fantasy Sports have come up with a model for you to get the most value for your draft pick.

Head to Head leagues always need a good corps of starting pitchers to provide you with quality starts to stay competitive in the league. I chose 3 pitchers from this model to go in depth about why they would be worth more than their ADP suggests.

Charlie Morton

Tampa Bay Rays

After posting career best 3.05 ERA in 2019 and career high 194 innings pitch, Morton would go on to playing in the All-Star game for the second time after doing the same in 2018 when he posted a 3.13 ERA. Morton is aging like a fine wine that just gets better over time. Houston Reignited his career in 2017 and now Tampa is showing his true strength and why his ADP doesn’t do his pitching ability justice.

Getting him in the 6-7 round this season would be major steal because he has a relatively high consistency rating and he’s not being drafted as high as his ability would suggest. Granted he is older but I don’t see his play dropping off this season and would be a great piece for any H2H team needing a pitcher.

Shane Bieber

Cleveland

32.1

92%

After making the All-Star team and being 4th in voting for the Cy Young award you would think Bieber would have started being drafted higher than 3rd round. He has the second highest consistency in the league and personally is one of my favorite pitchers going into the new season.

He was the 8th best pitcher after only his second year in the big leagues with a 3.26 ERA and 259 strikeouts with a 15-8 record this past season. That information alone would be a major steal in the 3rd round with guys like Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander more than likely going in the 1st and 2nd rounds just because they are household names.

Lance Lynn

Rangers

Being only 33 years old Lynn still has plenty of gas in the tank with a newfound resurgence while playing for the rangers after playing poorly for both the Twins and Yankees in 2018 and combining for a 4.77 ERA.

In 2019 Lynn had a 16-11 W/L record and would be a great asset in the late 11th round especially with him being the 7th highest pitcher on our Consistency Report. Granted he was only the 32nd highest pitcher in the league his 79% clutch is too high to ignore, I would take a flier on him in the later rounds and go after an early stud in the 4th-5th rounds.

Make sure to follow up on the rest of our positional ADP vs CR articles to help build your best fantasy team for the 2020 MLB season. Putting these guys in your roster would be a major asset and improve your team immensely against your opponents.
