Nease’s Insights—Fantasy Baseball: 20 Reinforcements

We are just about 1/2 way through our fantasy baseball season. Whether we are doing well, or plummeting to the bottom of the standings, we can all use some mid-season help. This week we are looking at 20 prime players that can replace some of the bottom-feeders on your rosters. 16 of these batters and pitchers currently are in the Top 100 ranked players, based on their performances over the last 30 days. I play on Yahoo and use it for a reference in my articles. All sites are basically the same though and these numbers should be close to the same, no matter where you play.

You can easily check the status of players yourself. You can sort so many ways—by all players or free agents, by positions, by time frame, etc. The analytical skills we all have are tested in this game. Those of you who stay on top of opportunities and make use of them are going to be managing the top teams in your leagues. I know, I continually harp on this point—if you aren’t playing with a goal of winning a championship, why are you wasting your time?

Brandon Nimmo has been red hot but is still only owned by 66% of Yahoo owners. You have to move fast to snag him. There are players here who can help you in all five scoring categories. Personally, I have added Nimmo and Dietrich to my roster in the last 3-4 weeks and they have helped me build a five and ½ game lead in my league going into this week’s game.

This pitchers’ group includes a rarity, two closers in Soria and Barraclough. They are available now, but you need to move swiftly to grab one, or both. They have had a pretty decent last 30 days. Personally, I have picked up Baraclough, Richard and Chacin in recent weeks myself.

Fantasy baseball varies a lot from fantasy football. In baseball, the waiver pool is much larger and is very fluid. There are almost always some players available on the waiver wire that can help improve your team. Hopefully this will help you save some time and give you some hot players to target.

Over the years many readers have contacted me personally for fantasy baseball questions throughout the year. I look forward to helping you in your quest to win championships this year. You can contact me by email with any questions you may have on fantasy football at This email address is being protected from spambots.
