The mix of the top receivers in Fantasy fluctuated quite a bit over the past five years (2018-2022):

As we review the chart above, we note the continued growth in two categories (Over 300 pts and over 75% consistency) in the wide receiver position. We also note that 2018 was the outlier for the number of receivers over 75% consistency at 17, while the other four years were between 12-15. In summary, wide receivers are becoming more prevalent in the fantasy game, but also the fact, that teams are spreading the ball around and hence we see only 29 total receivers over 200 points versus 32 receivers last year.
What does this mean for your drafting strategies in 2023? Just like last year when we told you to focus on those proven, consistent receivers like Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase and A.J. Brown, the answer remains the same for this year. We all like to draft the “shiny, new toys” that might break out. And that’s fine to take that risk in the later rounds, but getting veteran consistent receivers like CeeDee Lamb and Stefon Diggs will help your core team’s consistency and allow you to take some risks in your drafts in the later rounds (after rounds 8-10). Remember, there are top receivers who are very consistent, but there are always consistent receivers that can be drafted in the mid-late rounds that can help take your team to playoffs and Fantasy Championships.
