Xavier Edwards, INF – MIA

There aren’t too many guys that can boast about 80 grade speed, but Edwards is one of them. The 23-year-old infielder finally got his callup on May 2nd due to a hot start at Triple A Jacksonville, slashing .306/.427/.361 with 21 runs and 7 stolen bases. His eligibility is currently just at shortstop, but in his lone appearance thus far, Edwards played second base for the Marlins. His role looks to be as a utility man, so he should be eligible to slot into a few spots on your roster before too long.

At just 5’10” 175 lbs, Edwards is a contact bat who will swipe bags in bunches (7 for 8 on stolen base attempts at Triple A), as well as contributing in the runs scored category. It remains to be seen where he hits in the lineup, but he figures to slot in near the bottom of the lineup. Being a switch hitter will help get him into the lineup to spell both Luis Arraez and Jon Berti. With a strong showing, it’s possible he will take Berti’s job as the everyday shortstop. He remains low owned, especially in shallow leagues. He may not play every day to start, but you can never have too many steals, and he figures to contribute heavily in that category. Now’s the time to reel in this Marlin!
