Consistency in Coaching is just as important as the players’ consistency. The Chicago Bears had to make a change to their staff this year. Can consistency be created in the offseason to make a difference in 2026?
Press Taylor was promoted from Passing Game Coordinator to Offensive Coordinator after former OC Declan Doyle went to the Ravens. Press Taylor is an experienced offensive mind after stints with the Jags, Colts, and Eagles, including a Super Bowl LII appearance. He coached Nick Foles during that Super Bowl run and also helped to develop Trevor Lawrence. In all of his stops, he has worked with QB’s and also had play-calling experience in Jacksonville. Press Taylor is the brother of Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor. He’s an NFL guy through and through. This will be his second season with “Da Bears.” Will he try to put his own stamp on the offense now that he’s the OC?
Press Taylor won’t be a play caller. This offense still belongs to Ben Johnson. Press Taylor will be working with the QB room, which includes Caleb Williams, Case Keenum, and Tyson Bagent. Although he won’t be play calling, Press Taylor will be important in drawing up the game plan with Ben Johnson. He will also work closely with QB coach JT Barrett. As Press Taylor’s hire was made in house, there may not be any major changes to the offense, but Taylor and Barrett will continue to work together in continuing Caleb Williams progression.
QB’s: Caleb Williams will remain the Bears’ starter with no competition on the roster. In 2025, Caleb led the league with seven fourth-quarter comebacks. He had 3,942 yards with only 7 interceptions and 27 touchdown passes. He also had 388 rushing yards with 3 rushing TD’s. Those are all bona fide top 12 fantasy QB numbers. That was only his second season at the helm of the Bears’ offense. He’s going to be better this coming season. Defenses now have more film on him and on Ben Johnson’s offense with Caleb. So, I’m expecting similar, if not a little better, numbers and more creative playcalling from Ben Johnson to keep this offense rolling.
WR’s: With Caleb Williams ascension, he will pull the WR’s with him. With DJ Moore shipped off to the Bills, the young guys, Luther Burden and Rome Odunze, will both thrive. Each has its own skillset and style, which will give Williams options on every play. Luther Burden showcased consistent development throughout his 2025 rookie season with the Chicago Bears, transitioning from a limited role to a key offensive playmaker by the end of the year. He’s likely to run the underneath routes and have a lot of yards after the catch. Rome Odunze will be back and healthy to start the season. Odunze is a route technician with deceiving speed and sticky hands. He’s that guy who moves so fluidly that defenders think they’ve got a bead on him, and if they blink, he’s by them heading downfield. These two guys will be a phenomenal pair, and their success will benefit the running game and the tight ends’ success.
Running Backs: The running back room isn’t going to look much different this year, and I’m ok with that. D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai will be leading the rushing attack unless the Bears have a late-round rookie RB breakout. DeAndre Swift will be the lead back, but Monangai will be breathing down his neck. Last season, Monangai had 783 rushing yards, 5 TD’s, and 18 receptions for 164 yards. Both RB’s were pretty consistent, and if one gets injured, the other could be a league winner. Despite the Bears being a pass-heavy team, their RB’s get theirs, and I won’t be shy about drafting them.
Tight Ends: Colston Loveland, Cole Kmet, and rookie Sam Roush will be the TEs to watch in this offense, with the possibility for Loveland to really breakout. Ben Johnson utilizes tight ends as versatile weapons in his offense, often putting them on the field together to create mismatches and disguise plays. They will all be used consistently, but Loveland is considered to have the highest ceiling this year.
It looks like this season, if Ben Johnson hasn’t lost his creativity, the Offensive Coordinator change won’t likely disrupt the offense. Most Bears players should be even more consistent and impactful in 2026.
