Romeo Doubs – New England Patriots – 4 Years for $68 Million
What I like about it:
Based on the contract and the state of the Patriots’ WR room, we should finally get to see what Doubs can do. Over his four years in Green Bay, it seemed as though we never saw him get to be what we thought he was. With career highs of 59 catches, 724 yards, and eight touchdowns, he should eclipse those numbers with ease if he stays healthy.
He has very little competition for targets at this point. Mack Hollins (46 receptions) and Kayshon Boutte (33 receptions) figure to be the WR2 and WR3 at this point. The Pats could still add some depth, but it doesn’t seem as if there will be anyone who can challenge Doubs for targets.
Drake Maye finished as the QB with the most IAY/PA(intended air yards per pass attempt) in the entire league at 9.1. Doubs finished the season averaging 1.8 yards per route run and tallied 21 explosive plays according to NFL Next Gen Stats. There’s no reason he can’t duplicate the numbers Stefon Diggs posted in New England last season.

Things that make me go hmmm:
As noted above, health has been an issue. In his four seasons in Green Bay, Doubs averaged 12.5 games played per season. If you draft him, it’s a safe bet you’ll be without him for a few weeks. Plan accordingly.
As of right now, early ADPs have Doubs as the 59th WR off the board and the 149th pick overall, which puts him in Round 12 of a 12-team league. As of now, he seems priced fairly, but as mocks pick up, it’s possible the hype train will take off a bit. I can handle a slight increase in ADP, but let’s not overpay.
Overall Take:
In our system, Doubs was just 44% consistent with 7 clutch games in 16 games played. This ranked him 45th in consistency at wide receiver. Do I look for this number to go up? Absolutely. Drake Maye is one of the best deep ball passers in the game and is an immediate upgrade for Doubs. He becomes the clear number one in New England, and as long as the ADP doesn’t shoot up this summer, I’m looking for some consistency from Doubs.
