Week 3 NFL Fantasy Football: Who’s Hot & Who’s Not!

Welcome Back! Big Guy Fantasy Sports is thrilled to bring you another year of the best in NFL consistency rankings and championship fantasy football strategy.

Week 3 in NFL Fantasy Football means we need to take a look at “Who’s Hot & Who’s Not” based on the consistency model.

Each week, Colby Conway gives his insights on the consistency of the players in your season-long leagues! Find out who’s been (HOT) consistent and (NOT HOT) inconsistent in order to help you make waiver wire claims and start/sit decisions this year.

Two weeks of the NFL season have passed, and fantasy managers are doing their best to have rational reactions to Weeks 1 and 2. However, I’ll urge you not to get too high or too low this early in the season. In this week’s edition of Who’s Hot and Who’s Not, we’ll dive into standout performances from Javonte Williams and Troy Franklin, while dissecting recent games for Isiah Pacheco and Demario Douglas.

Who’s Hot!

Kenneth Walker, Seattle Seahawks

After a down Week 1 and a still less than ideal snap share, I was hesitant to put him here. However, the Week 2 numbers for Walker were incredibly impressive. After just 30 percent of his carries (3/10) were zone concepts in Week 1, but that didn’t continue in Week 2. Last week, 61.5 percent of his carries were zone concept, and he averaged 6.6 yards per carry on those rushes, per FantasyPoints. Zach Charbonnet handled more work than Walker, but the latter was far more effective.

Troy Franklin, Denver Broncos

Franklin had his best game as a professional in Week 2, catching eight of nine targets for 89 yards and a touchdown. It was his first clutch game of the year, and the only two Broncos pass-catchers to handle a 55+ percent route share through the first two games of the season are Courtland Sutton and Franklin. Hence, I don’t think it’s crazy to say that he’s clearly the WR2 for this team. However, a Sean Payton offensive scheme is always going to be maddening for fantasy managers.

Javonte Williams, Dallas Cowboys

Through two weeks, not only is Williams a perfect 100 percent consistent, but he’s handled a 74.8 percent snap share and two-thirds of the team’s carries, per Fantasy Points. Here’s the complete list of players to have played at least 70 percent of the team’s snaps, have handled 60+ percent of the team’s carries, and have a double-digit target rate: De’Von Achane, Alvin Kamara, and Williams. It’s hard to argue with his role and production through two weeks.

Who’s Not!

Isiah Pacheco, Kansas City Chiefs

Pacheco is still looking for his first clutch game of the year, and it might be a bit until he gets it. His poor play hasn’t created any distance between himself and Kareem Hunt. In fact, of RBs with at least 15 carries, Pacheco has the second-lowest expected fantasy points per game (7.5), per Fantasy Points.

Mark Andrews, Baltimore Ravens

Yes, he’s here again! However, I don’t care! Another year, another slow start for Andrews. Two receptions on four targets for seven yards, and one carry for 2 yards through two weeks. He’s handling a solid snap share, but a measly 8.3 percent target share just isn’t getting it done. For the record, Andrews didn’t get it going until Week 5 or 6 last season. Andrews’ 3.8 receptions and 43.1 yards per game in the month of September are his lowest in any month.

Demario Douglas, New England Patriots

Through two weeks on the season Douglas has just one receiving touchdown. He also has only six receiving yards on eight targets, which is undeniably awful. He’s caught just three of those passes from Drake Maye. His snap share took a hit in Week 2, taking a backseat to the likes of Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins, and Stefon Diggs. However, the glowing reports from camp haven’t quite carried over into the season yet for Douglas.
