Game of the Week: Fantasy Points on Tap in Atlanta!

Each week, there’s at least one game that sticks out as a full-blown fantasy buffet. This week, there’s a game on the schedule featuring five top consistency players from last year. How many are in your lineups?

As the season approaches, it’s the first Sunday we are all anticipating some great games. A true advantage for fantasy managers is identifying which games that week are going to have a ton of fantasy goodness. This week’s game of the week is in Atlanta, where a track meet is scheduled between the Falcons and the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers!

I researched several factors and gathered information on each game this week to determine where the points were. Some of those include, but are not limited to: Consistency, Weather, Game Location, Team Rankings, Historical Data, and Injuries.

Stacks and game correlation are big in Best Ball leagues, but they can be helpful across every type of fantasy. Keep reading along to see why I think this week’s matchup in Atlanta is poised to be a huge fantasy game.

Consistency Studs (>70% Last Season) & Matchup History

The Atlanta Falcons host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday at 1 pm EST. This game tied with the Cincinnati Bengals at the Cleveland Browns game for the most fantasy consistent studs playing this week. Both games feature five players who had a 70% or higher “Clutch Rate” (CR) from last season.

Baker Mayfield was QB2 last season with an 82% CR. Mayfield scored 23.4 and 24.3 points in the two games he played against the Falcons last season. Both of those games ranked him as QB7 for the week. Bucky Irving and Mike Evans both had a 71% CR this past season. Those were good enough to finish as RB12 and tied for WR10. In Evans’ one game he played against Atlanta last season, he scored 23.2 fantasy points and was the week as WR8.

Clutch Rates (Last Season): Bijan Robinson (100%), Baker Mayfield (82%), Drake London (76%), Bucky Irving (71%), Mike Evans (71%)

The Falcons also have a couple of consistency studs going this week. Bijan Robinson had a 100% CR, and Drake London clocked in with a 76% CR last year. Robinson’s perfect consistency was on display as he averaged 17.15 points per game in his two games against Tampa Bay. London, somehow, managed to be even better, averaging 20.4 in those two games.

These two teams are no strangers as they’re division rivals and they match up twice every year. Last year, these two averaged a combined 61.5 points per game in their two games. Neither defense could be considered good last year, 16th for the Buccaneers (22.6) and 23rd for the Falcons (24.9) in points against per game.

Weather & Game Location

The Weather in Atlanta for gameday is projected to be 79 °F with wind gusts up to 11 mph. There’s even an 8% chance of rain. But we don’t care about any of that, why? This game is scheduled to be played in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which is a dome.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium has been home to the Atlanta Falcons since 2017. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been a friendly place for them; they’ve gone 30-35 while playing there.

Odds, Injuries & Other Notes

Currently, Vegas has the Buccaneers as -1.5 favorites, and the game has an over/under of 47.5. That implied point total is one of the highest of the week, joining the Bengals vs. Browns (48) and Ravens vs. Bills (50.5).

A notable player who has popped up on the injury list this week is Vita Vea, the defensive tackle for the Buccaneers. If he’s out, they’ll have a tough time stopping the run, which is great news for Robinson. It appears that the Buccaneers will also miss Tristan Wirfs and Chris Godwin, both of whom are normal starters on offense. Keep an eye on this until game time for any surprise inactives.

Notable Injuries: TB – Chris Godwin (WR, DNP), Tristan Wirfs (OT, DNP), Vita Vea (NT, DNP),  ATL – Darnell Mooney (WR, Limited)

There are a couple of players who are either rookies or have a small sample size from last year that we should keep an eye on. One is Michael Penix Jr., the starting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons. He firmly finished the season with a 26-point game against the Carolina Panthers.

Another player to keep an eye on is rookie Tampa Bay WR Emeka Egbuka. Due to the injury to Chris Godwin, along with a great showing in the preseason, Egbuka is stepping into the Buccaneers’ starting lineup. He’s gotten a ton of buzz and is expected to step right into Godwin’s highly valuable PPR role. A deep sleeper to keep an eye on for fantasy in this game is Tez Johnson, another rookie WR for the Bucs.

Fantasy managers should be starting these guys this week with confidence. These guys are all great plays in DFS as well (Daily Fantasy).
