Fantasy Tight Ends: Trey McBride is a must!

Fantasy Tight Ends are finally starting to even out after years of top-heavy production. As the position fills out, it’s of utmost importance to know where to target your guy. There are values across the board, but who’s got the best upside?
Do I reach or do I wait? That’s the question when it comes to the fantasy tight end position. This question often applies to quarterbacks as well, with both having one starting slot in the majority of leagues.
The best current values for tight ends vary across the board. I reviewed consistency, along with current situations, to identify those that offer the best value for your team.

Fantasy Football Tight End Recommendations – 7/21/2025 Fantasy Football: Consistency
TE Trey McBride ARI
The tight end spot has been getting a lot of attention recently. Several younger guys are leading the way, and one of those is Trey McBride. He was TE2 overall (249.8) and in points per game (15.6) last year. Trailing only Brock Bowers in total points (262.7) and George Kittle (15.8) in points per game.
In 2023, McBride came on as a top fantasy tight end by catching 81 passes for 825 yards. He was TE7 overall and TE8 in points per game that season. He elevated even more last season, and there’s no reason to doubt he’s a locked-in TE1 for this upcoming season.

Consistency is king, and McBride also runs that category. Last season, he had a Clutch Rate (CR) of 81%. That was tops amongst all tight ends. Kittle finished second at 80% and was the only other tight end to hit that threshold. Arizona didn’t bring in any competition for McBride’s targets this season, so a repeat of the 140+ he got last year looks good.
In the fantasy tight ends landscape, McBride is expensive (TE2, 27.9 overall). The price is worth paying for. McBride is an easy favorite for TE1 this season. A pass catcher in the 3rd round who can get 100+ receptions and 1,100+ yards is a smash. A tight end who can do it, even more so. WHEN TO TARGET: Late 2nd Round/Early 3rd Round (Pick 21+)
TE Evan Engram DEN
The Denver Broncos are a team on the rise. A part of that is due to the signing of Evan Engram. Recently, Head Coach of the Broncos, Sean Payton, called Engram his “Joker”. For those familiar with the term, it usually corresponds to elite fantasy production (Reggie Bush, Marques Colston, and Jimmy Graham, to name a few).
In 2023, Engram was TE2 overall (230.3) and tied for TE4 in points per game (13.5). He also had a 76% CR that season, which was 2nd overall (would have been good enough for 3rd last season). Unfortunately, Engram had some bad injury luck last season, which limited him to only 9 games played.
Despite the limited number of games played, Engram averaged 5.2 receptions and over 40 receiving yards per game. That tied him for TE13 (9.9 points per game) last season despite what many would say was a down year.
You can draft Engram as TE9 in drafts (96.4 overall). That’s an amazing value for a player with legit TE1 upside. Coming into camp healthy, the expectations are sky high. He should easily eclipse 120 targets in a wide-open receiving room in Denver (Courtland Sutton is the only established competition). WHEN TO TARGET: Late 7th Round (I have him ranked behind McBride, Bowers, Kittle, Travis Kelce, and T.J. Hockenson at TE)
TE Tucker Kraft GB
Green Bay is another team that has a wide-open receiving room. Last year, their leading target earner only got 76 targets (Dontayvion Wicks). Enter Tucker Kraft, who earned 70 targets and had 50 receptions last season. His reception total trailed only Jayden Reeed for the team lead (55).
Kraft was quietly TE10 overall and TE15 in points per game last year, averaging 9.6 points per game. His advanced metrics tell us he’s an elite target earner. He let all tight ends last season with 9.1 yards after catch per reception. Tackle breaking? Kraft led all tight ends in that category, too, with 9.
Kraft’s consistency left fantasy managers wanting more as he finished with a CR of 47%. Although being a lower number, he was TE15 overall in CR. The Packers drafted wide receiver Matthew Golden in the 1st round and Savion Williams in the 3rd round of this year’s draft. That speaks more to the team wanting to upgrade at wide receiver than it does about Kraft.
As far as fantasy tight ends, Kraft is getting some respect. His current ADP (Average Draft Position) is TE12 at 129.1 overall. The YAC and big play potential (19 plays of 20+ yards) remind me of George Kittle. He should clear 100 targets this season and will pay off his ADP big time. WHEN TO TARGET: Late 9th Round
TE Mason Taylor NYJ Fantasy Tight Ends.
This is one of my favorite late-round picks for tight end. Mason Taylor was drafted in the 2nd round, 42nd overall, in this year’s draft. The Jets, like most of the teams I’ve covered in this article, have a receiving room that lacks top target earners. The only name that’s proven to do so in New York is Garrett Wilson.
Taylor was a prolific receiving weapon in college, where he caught 129 passes for 1,308 yards throughout 3 seasons at LSU. As always, we’re looking for the potential to be a top 2 target earner for tight ends, Taylor fits that right away.
Also working in Taylor’s favor is his pedigree. He’s the son of NFL Hall of Famer Jason Taylor. And, oh yeah, his uncle is Hall of Fame linebacker Zach Thomas as well. That pedigree has led to an impressive work ethic and refined set of skills, which saw him score an 80 overall based on Next Gen Stats.
At LSU, he set the school record last season with 55 receptions (the only TE in school history to have 100+ receptions and 1,000+ yards). He’s listed as TE28 in ADP (169.6 overall), and that’s way too low. I’m targeting him at his ADP in every draft and expecting big things. WHEN TO TARGET: Mid 13th Round
