Fantasy Running Backs are showing up again in Fantasy Football. They are “League Winners” again; it’s important that we can find RB value in our drafts.
I looked at the last few seasons to see which running backs benefited the most. Below are four running backs poised to make big noise in 2025.
I found a common denominator among top fantasy running back finishes in points and consistency. Running back targets.

Fantasy Football Running Back Recommendations – 7/1/2025 Fantasy Football: Consistency
RB De’Von Achane MIA
Discovered a trend when cross-examining fantasy point leaders with consistency. Running back targets presented the clearest path to points and consistency. De’Von Achane finished last season with 87 targets, second in the NFL. He averaged over 5 targets per game.
The fantasy football community has broken this metric down. You’ve heard the “a target is worth 2 1/2 times the value of a carry” for fantasy running backs. Achane proves that. He finished as RB6 last season in points per game with 17.6.

Achane was RB6 in points per game last year; 11th in Clutch Rate (CR) at 76%. Not only was Achane explosive, but he was consistent week to week. He had twelve RB2 or better weeks. Five of which were top 3 RB weeks.
This year will be even better for the 23-year-old. The Dolphins recently traded away Jonnu Smith, opening up 111 targets within the offense. Smart money is on Achane getting more than a few of those. His ADP is RB7, and he’s going in the 2nd round. 90+ targets this season will have him in the top 5 at RB, and he’s got a great chance for RB1 overall. WHEN TO TARGET: Mid to late 1st Round
RB Alvin Kamara NO
I wrote about Alvin Kamara previously in my ADP Too High and Too Low article. Now I’m going to continue beating the drum for him. Kamara is the definition of an RB1. He’s averaged 87.5 targets per year, good for 6.5 per game over the last two seasons.
His target numbers per game led the NFL in both years. He’s also been an incredibly consistent fantasy running back. I previously highlighted that he had a 93% CR in 2024. In 2023, he wasn’t far behind as he had an 85% CR. In the past two seasons, Kamara has been an RB2 or better in 90% of his games.
Kamara is being drafted as the RB17. He’s finished as RB5, RB3, and RB14 over the past three seasons. Kamara, picked in the 4th round of fantasy drafts, is insulting. He’s produced regardless of his quarterback situation, coaching staff, and every obstacle you can imagine.
The Saints haven’t upgraded at the running back position this season. Kamara received a 2 year, $24.5 million contract extension this past October as proof. He’s being drafted on his floor production. Kamara could be the top-rostered running back on league-winning teams this season. WHEN TO TARGET: Late 3rd Round to early 4th Round
RB Breece Hall NYJ
The New York Jets have been extremely turbulent for fantasy football. Breece Hall has been mentioned as the potential RB1 overall since his rookie season. Hall finished as RB17 (points per game) last season after finishing as RB6 in 2023.
Hall has finished 4th and 2nd in targets per game the past two seasons. He’s been at worst a mid-level RB2 due to his targets. The Jets essentially swapped with the Steelers, acquiring Justin Fields as their new QB1 while Aaron Rodgers will start for Pittsburgh. With no other significant offensive additions, Hall is poised to get a ton of work again this season.
Hall continues to be an extremely efficient fantasy contributor. His CR for the last two seasons was 69% and 71%. Last season, he had six RB1 finishes in 15 games, with another four as an RB2.
ADP has Hall as RB16, drafting him at his floor price. He’s a 24-year-old running back who’s in his prime. He’ll finish the upcoming season in the top 5 for targets among fantasy running backs. With a CR of 70%+, he’s a steal with RB1 overall within his range of outcomes. WHEN TO TARGET: Mid to late 3rd Round
RB Rachaad White TB Fantasy Running Backs
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been a fantasy dream. Baker Mayfield has taken off, Chris Godwin and Mike Evans are wide receiver studs, and Bucky Irving took the league by storm last season. The forgotten piece is Rachaad White. White has finished as RB22 (points per game) and RB10 over the past two seasons.
White has accumulated points via the passing game. He’s finished 13th in targets per game for running backs the past two seasons. Despite the usage Irving has gotten, White isn’t going away. His CR was 67% and 76% for the last two years. He gives you RB2 numbers in more than 2/3 of his games.
White continues to get opportunities in a loaded Buccaneers offense. White is the unquestioned RB2, Sean Tucker is a great depth piece, but isn’t a concern. He had over 1,000 yards from scrimmage last year, hasn’t had less than 50 receptions in a season during his 3-year career, and had 4.3 yards per carry last season.
White’s going as RB41 in ADP. He’s an easy click when the time comes later in drafts as an RB2, since he’s going as an RB4 (127.8 overall). In your draft, ignore White at your peril. He’s one of the best backup/handcuff running backs. WHEN TO TARGET: Mid 9th Round to early 10th Round
Running backs who earn targets are players with playmaking skills, pass-blocking efficiency, and are trusted by their coaches on 3rd down.
