No One Fantasy Wide Receiver Is More Consistent Than Father Time, Right?

Welcome Back! Big Guy Fantasy Sports is thrilled to bring you another year of the best in NFL consistency rankings and championship fantasy football strategy.

When it comes to the NFL, Father Time catches up to everyone. Hello, Mr. Fantasy, Davante Adams!

Players slow down, lose that second gear, and can’t outrun defenders. As fantasy players, we’re indoctrinated to avoid wide receivers and running backs over 30. Every now and then, though, Father Time has great hands and pristine route running. Hello, 2025 Davante Adams!

He’s going to turn 33 during the upcoming season. In each of the last four seasons, his maximum average route speed has declined. The Rams will be his third team in two years. Taking all that into consideration, I recommend that you draft him, not as bench depth, but as one of your starters. I think at worst, he will be a WR2, which you can get for a WR3 draft capital.

Like you do after reading my other articles, you’re saying, “Why would I draft that old guy that early?”

Here’s Why… Fantasy Wide Receiver!

Despite getting older, Davante Adams continues to consistently churn out thousand-yard seasons. Last season, he played on the Raiders and Jets, two of the most putrid offenses in the league, and he still had another 1000-yard season. He also had a 71-yard touchdown. Dude still knows how to find the end zone. He had 7 TDs as the WR2 on the Jets after coming over in mid-season.

Davante’s consistency dropped to only a 64% clutch rating on the year. Was that due to a waning of his skills or due to his circumstances? I’m saying it was circumstances. Can you remember who played QB for the Raiders last season? Me either. They reached out to me at one point, and I turned them down. After coming to the Jets, his consistency improved due to Aaron Rodgers‘ adequate quarterbacking. Looking at the splits between his 2024 Raiders time and his 2024 Jets stint, his yards per catch increased over his career average after he got to New York.

The next factor to consider is the Rams team surrounding him in 2025. The offense is better than both the Raiders and Jets, so his production should improve. A good offense means more opportunities, even if he is going to be WR2 behind Puca Nacua. Being the WR2 with Puca means that he’ll be in the Cooper Kupp role! I love a guy with Davante’s skills as the Rams’ X receiver. He might be a better Cooper Kupp than Cooper Kupp.

One last thing, Matthew Stafford is still the Rams QB. At 37, he’s an old guy, too. Davante Adams has never been on a Super Bowl-winning team. He knows Father Time is coming for him, and he’s running out of chances. It wouldn’t surprise me if this season he achieves his highest clutch rate ever.

Also, don’t you think that Stafford and Davante have had a conversation on the sideline where Davante said to Stafford, “Let’s show these kids how it’s done.” Then Matt Stafford replied, “Don’t worry, I gotcha!”
