Fantasy football breakout players are one of the most important aspects for any fantasy football manager heading into their draft prep. Keon Coleman is one of the breakouts for 2025, and the reasons may surprise you.
Hey guys, nice to meet you. I’m Phil, and I love consistency almost as much as Bob Lung, but… I’m a little different. I have a Master’s Degree in Psychology, and I spent twenty years assessing people’s needs, wants, and motivations. When I start planning my fantasy draft strategies, I first go to consistency. The consistent players are the core of my team. Once I have identified my core, I look to the guys who may have some sneaky consistency and a chip on their shoulder. That’s why this year I’ll be inviting the Buffalo Bills receiver Keon Coleman to join my team. Who doesn’t love the guy who plays like he’s got a grudge against the world?
Keon Coleman: Fantasy Football Breakout?
Keon has a chip on his shoulder. At Michigan State, he had a chip on his shoulder because Jayden Reed was the number 1. Then he transferred to Florida State. After a strong season, he was drafted in the second round, which is good, but it doesn’t have the cache of the first round, does it? Then, in his first season with the Bills, they went out and got Amari Cooper to do exactly what Keon was drafted to do. Sure, you’re saying to yourself, “But Phil,” which is an odd thing to say to yourself, “just because he wants to be good doesn’t mean he’s going to be good.” When you stop talking to yourself, I’ll reply, “That’s true, and here’s why I think he will be better than you think in 2025…”
The Gauntlet.
The Gauntlet is a drill used to evaluate NFL prospects, particularly wide receivers and tight ends. It involves a series of catches on the run, measuring hand-eye coordination, agility, and the ability to change focus while moving. Guess who broke Puka Nacua’s Gauntlet combine record? Guess who has a six and a half foot wingspan? And Guess who had a vertical leap over three feet? Mine was only two and a half feet, so the answer must be Keon Coleman. That’s a 6’3” guy leaping three feet straight up! His hands will be 9 feet above the turf. What cornerback or safety is going up there with him?

That’s all fine, but we’ve seen physical specimens fail in the NFL. So, what makes Keon Coleman my pick to break out in 2025? The Bills only drafted one wide receiver, and that was in the 7th round. Sure, the Bills have Josh Palmer and Khalil Shakir, but when you want a 30-yard touchdown with the clock winding down, who ya’ gonna call? Josh Allen has never had a receiver like Coleman.
For the first time in his college and pro career, Keon has the number one wide receiver job all to himself. There’s his motivation. He’s never had a QB like Josh Allen, and Josh Allen has never had a receiver like Keon Coleman. After getting his feet wet in his rookie year, it’s all systems go in year 2.
